In this online workshop we will introduce you to the latest hardware and software tools from STMicroelectronics for developing industrial applications: the SensorTile Wireless Industrial Node (STWIN) development kits and associated software deliverables.
You will learn how to use the latest release of the STM32Cube function packs FP-SNS-DATALOG1 and FP-CLD-AZURE1 to collect, store, and visualize sensor data. We will also cover the newest feature of ST's Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), the Machine Learning Core (MLC), which provides a pathway to move from condition monitoring to predictive maintenance through machine learning.
This workshop is self-paced and can be accessed on-demand any time after the start of the selected session (see Session dates and times). Please note that live tech support via break-out rooms will be available only during the scheduled session hours.
Participation details
This workshop is open to Americas residents only.
One each of the STEVAL-STWINKT1B development kit and STEVAL-STWINWFV1 Wi-Fi expansion board are required to participate in the workshop exercises. A limited number of the kits with expansion board will be available at a discounted price of $26.95 USD (total for both components) exclusively for attendees of this workshop. You will receive purchase instructions by email soon after we receive your request to participate.
You will need to complete the purchase of these discounted kits in order to be confirmed for a workshop session. Confirmed attendees will also need to purchase a microSD card for use during the workshop. You will receive details on compatible microSD cards once you are confirmed for a workshop session.

This workshop is intended for hardware and firmware engineers developing IoT nodes, home appliance and automation systems, industrial controls, medical devices, and wearable products.
You will learn
- How to use the latest release of the STM32Cube function packs FP-SNS-DATALOG1 and FP-CLD-AZURE1 to collect, store, and visualize sensor data
- How to connect STWIN via USB, configure sensors, acquire and tag data and how to configure STWIN sensors via Bluetooth® Low Energy, and acquire & store data on a local SD Card
- How to use Python scripts to plot and pre-process data for further analysis
- How to configure the Machine Learning Core in the STWIN's IMU with Unico GUI to perform an example classification independently from the main MCU
- How to connect STWIN to Microsoft IoT Central Cloud Application, configure, collect and visualize data
Prerequisites
This hands-on workshop is a working session and requires a computer running the 64-bit version of Windows® 10. Administrator rights are needed for software and driver installation. A microSD card reader (either integrated in the computer or as a separate microSD card reader) will be needed for the hands-on exercises. There is an optional ST BLE Sensor App training module for Android (6.0 or higher) users at the end of the workshop.
The use of two screens is recommended so that you can watch, pause, and rewind the instruction video on one screen while completing the workshop on the other.

Meet your instructors
Ernesto Manuel Cantone Manuel is Product Marketing Manager for MEMS and Sensors in the Americas. Starting his career as a mixed-signal IC designer, he promotes ST's IoT ecosystem to help developers succeed in Smart Industry, Smart City, Smart Home and Smart Things and to ensure that ST offers the latest Cloud, Connectivity, and Sensor Fusion building blocks for these markets. He earned his MS in Electrical Engineering from the Universita' di Pisa, Italy. |
Michael Hess Michael is Applications Manager for ST's Sensors to Cloud Team. Starting as a telecom and networking tool design engineer, he has held roles in technical project management and technical support engineering at several semiconductor distributors. At ST, his career has included managing OEM/ODM and partner relationships for ST’s broad portfolio of MEMS sensors and microcontrollers. Michael earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from Manhattan College in NY. |
About the SensorTile Wireless Industrial Node (STWIN) development kit
STMicroelectronics' STWIN SensorTile Wireless Industrial Node (STEVAL-STWINKT1B) is a comprehensive development kit and reference design that simplifies prototyping and testing of advanced industrial IoT applications, such as condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. The STEVAL-STWINKT1B is based on a Core System Board, which features a wide range of embedded industrial-grade sensors.
The Core System Board features an ultra-low-power Arm® Cortex®-M4 microcontroller and a range of industrial-grade sensors for 9-DoF motion sensing, vibration analysis across a wide range of vibration frequencies, including very high frequency audio and ultrasound spectra, and high precision local temperature and environmental monitoring.
The Core System Board supports Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) wireless connectivity through an on-board module, and Wi-Fi® connectivity through an optional Wi-Fi expansion board (STEVAL-STWINWFV1). Wired connectivity is also supported via USB and an on-board RS485 transceiver.
